Highland Highlights: Go the distance for the love of the game

The Highlander season is winding down, but the teams are still in high gear! The Highlander baseball team had a solid win against Georgia Perimeter College on March 25 with a score of 5-3. Georgia Perimeter came back later that day to win over Gordon with 11-13, but the Highlanders came back with swords brandished on March 26th to defeat them 3-1. The men had a loss to Middle Georgia College, but charged back on March 30th and April 1st defeating Darton College twice with scores of 8-5 and 3-2. The Highlanders just kept coming with two more wins against Brewton Parker College on April 5th with scores of 9-4 and 12-3. The Highlander men refused to stop the punishment. The rest of the scores are as follows:

The Highlander softball team had a few discouraging games in late March beginning with two cancelled games against Georgia Perimeter College on March 23rd. Two games with Young Harris on March 25th were as rough as the Irish hills with losing scores of 0-1 and 2-7. The Ladies did push forward for a win against Truett-McConnell, scoring 11-2, but lost the second game 1-5 on March 28th. It was an April Fool's joke for South Georgia when they lost two games to the Lady Highlanders on April first with scores of 5-2 and 9-0. The rest of the Ladies scores are as follows:

Aces for Gordon teams

The Gordon College men and women tennis teams will travel to ABAC this weekend for the Region 17 tennis tournament.

The women's team ended their regular season this week with a record of 7 wins and 3 defeats. The men's team had a record of 2 wins and 4 defeats.

Leading the women's team at the #1 singles position is Jaclyn Smith, at the #2 position is Jessica Dickson, at the #3 position is Maria Dreaden, at the #4 position is Emily Griffis, at the #5 position is Shekema Burton, and at the #6 position is Kendel Allen, who was also an outstanding soccer player. Whitney Brown, another soccer player, also played exhibition games and sometimes #6.

The men's team was lead by singles players #1 Ozzy Damjanovski, #2 Diego Villegas-Sierra, #3 Gabriel Arraiz, #4 Ansley Fowler, #5 Nick English, and #6 Chris Callahan. Jeremy Villalobos, the goal keeper for the men's soccer team, played exhibition games for the team and also filled in at the #6 position.

Jaclyn Smith and Jessica Dickson played #1 doubles, Maria Dreaden and Emily Griffis #2 doubles, and Shekema Burton and Kendel Allen #3 doubles. Whitney Brown would fill in on the #3 doubles. The women's doubles would usually sweep the other teams’ doubles.

Ozzy Damjanovski and Gabriel Arraiz played #1 doubles, Diego Villegas-Sierra and Chris Callahan #2 doubles, and Nick English and Ansley Fowler #3 doubles. Jeremy Villalobos would fill in for the #2 and #3 teams.

The tennis team will lose all the men players and all the women players, except for Shekema Burton, for next year.
