Cross Country Set For Region Championship
10. 26. 2009
With the regular season completed, the Gordon College Cross Country team can now set their sights on the Region XVII Championship this weekend. The event is hosted by Darton College and will be run at Skiles Farm in Dawson, Georgia, this Saturday, October 31. The women will open the competition at 9 a.m. while the men are scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
Runners are looking to qualify for the NJCAA National Championship at East Peoria, Illinois, on November 14, and the region meet is an important first step for the Highlanders. GC last competed at the Oglethorpe University Invitational on October 17 where both teams recorded solid individual performances. The women will be counting on sophomores Marlene Escobar and Amber Hoffman along with newcomers Elizabeth Gresham and Chelsey Patterson to set the pace for Gordon. With another Top 25 finish at Oglethorpe, freshman Robert Bradham is expected to make an impact on the men’s results along with teammate Brandon Lewis. Competition will be keen at the region meet as Young Harris College and host Darton College finished one, two in last year’s women’s division while the men’s event will crown a new champion. Truett-McConnell College has since moved to the NAIA and will not be able to repeat last year’s top performance.
