The Gordon College men’s basketball team knew they were in for a challenge facing South Georgia Technical College on their own home court in the first round of the Region 17 post-season tournament. However, the Highlanders put that advantage aside and matched up well against the Jets in the first half. Behind a pressing defense, GC was able to rally and found themselves down just 34 – 32 at half.

SGTC, the number one seed, was determined to change their fortune around in
the second half. Behind newcomers Jae Crowder and Antonio Bell, the Jets
never relinquished the lead and went on to claim a 70 – 58 victory.

The Highlanders were led by Daveion Zellner and Lamar Elston who each had 14
points. Jonathon Harris chipped in nine points while Gray McNeeley had eight
points and eight rebounds. The loss also closed out the season for five
sophomores – Lamar Elston, Gray McNeeley, Pete Driver, Willie Woodard, and
Jonathon Harris.

South Georgia Tech went on to beat Albany Tech and Georgia Perimeter to win
the Region 17 Championship.
