ATHLETICS

The Gordon College Highlanders are active participants in intercollegiate sports, including women's and men's cross country, women's and men's soccer, men's basketball, women's fast-pitch softball, baseball, women's tennis, cheerleading, and most recently wrestling and swimming.

Gordon College is a member of the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association and the National Junior College Athletic Association. Membership in these associations entitles state winners in any sport to participate in regional and national competitions.

Soccer Shares Spotlight Today

The women and men will share the spotlight today as both soccer teams host South Georgia College. The women will begin play at 5 p.m. while the men will follow at 7 p.m. With just one week into the season, the Highlanders will be looking for their first win of the year against the Tigers. Admission is free for both matches and concessions will be available.

09. 02. 2010 - Women's Basketball

Questions About Women's Basketball?

You can find out all the answers as new Head Women’s Basketball Coach Lisa Poller Horton will be introduced at the first meeting for those interested in trying out for the women’s basketball team. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 8, in the Student Center Auditorium at 5 p.m. This will be a great time to find out more information about the requirements, commitment and tryout date for the 2010 women’s basketball program.

09. 02. 2010 - Cheerleading

Cheer Requirements Announced

The first cheerleading meeting was held Tuesday in the Student Center Auditorium and more than seventy-five students were in attendance. If you were not able to make the meeting, you should be aware of the initial requirements needed before you try out for the squad. Everyone interested in cheering for Gordon College must have a physical on file. Forms are available at the front desk of Alumni Memorial Hall (GYM). All physicals should be turned in prior to the next workout which is scheduled for Wednesday, September 8, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Alumni Memorial Hall (GYM).

08. 31. 2010 - Men's Cross Country

Newcomers Strong For Highlanders

A strong finish by newcomers Mary Roberts and John Mark Grafmiller highlighted the first collegiate event of the year for Gordon College. Both freshmen placed eleventh in their respective divisions while Elizabeth Gresham, Alexxa Quiles, Chelsey Patterson, and Nathon Watson placed in the top twenty. Darton College won the women's and men's competition while the Highlander men placed third overall. Gordon College will return to action on Saturday, September 11, at Georgia Southwestern University in Americus.

08. 31. 2010 - Women's Soccer

ABAC Brings Another Challenge

The Gordon College women's soccer team must rebound in a hurry after Friday's loss to Georgia Perimeter College. Just four days out from a difficult match with GPC, the Highlanders must travel to Tifton today for a 5 p.m. start at ABAC. The competition doesn't get any easier as the Fillies completed a two-game sweep over the weekend without allowing a goal. Head Coach Vicky Bright's team must play better today to pick up their first win of the season. An update on the match will be provided soon!

Game Against Brewton-Parker Cancelled

The home game for the Men's Soccer team against Brewton-Parker College has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

Interested in Cheerleading?

All the information you need to know about cheering at Gordon College will be covered in a meeting on Tuesday, August 31, at 6 p.m. in the Student Center Auditorium. If you are currently a full-time student at GC and interested in the program, plan on attending this meeting.

Wrestling Is Back!

Wrestling returns to Gordon College under the direction of second year Head Coach Jeramey Jones. An information meeting will be held Wednesday, September 1, at 2 p.m. in the Academic Building - Classroom #110. If you have any questions about the program and what it takes to wrestle for the Highlanders, this is the meeting for you.
