An organization designed to help increase the number of African American and Latino men who graduate from college and become productive members of society has been formed at Gordon College.

The Student African-American Brotherhood (SAAB) creates a positive peer community based on a spirit of caring. SAAB operates through student run chapters on college and high school campuses throughout the nation. Members are expected to excel academically, socially, culturally, spiritually and in service to the community.

Sophomore Fredrick Bailey is president of the Gordon organization. Joshua Collington is vice president while Christopher Jones is secretary.

"This organization can touch the lives of many of my fellow students, black or white," said Bailey. "Sometimes a young man just needs some guidance and to be pointed in the right direction. We hope by setting an example, we can help do that."

SAAB emphasizes participants' understanding of their responsibilities as mentors, role models, husbands, future fathers and productive citizens. Members are nominated to join the organization.
